The Department of Statistics at Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Satara, established in 1967, has a rich legacy of promoting statistical education and analytical thinking. In 2017, the department introduced Statistics as a Principal Subject at the undergraduate level, marking a significant milestone in its academic growth. The department is supported by a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members committed to excellence in teaching, research, and student development.
Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department offers Major, Minor, Open Elective (OE), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), and Vocational Skill Courses (VSC), Co-Curricular Courses (CC), Community Engagement Programme (CEP). Through Outcome-Based Education (OBE), experiential learning, ICT-enabled teaching, practical training, research projects, field visits, surveys, and statistical software such as MS-Excel, R, and SPSS, students develop strong analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills.
The department regularly organizes certificate courses, workshops, seminars, educational study tours, community engagement programmes, research competitions, statistical quizzes, and MoU-based collaborative activities to enhance students' academic, professional, and leadership skills. Special emphasis is given to supporting both slow and advanced learners through mentoring, remedial teaching, and enrichment programmes.
